What is ScanCloth?

What is ScanCloth?

ScanCloth is a patent-pending, cuttable fabric embedded with high-contrast scanning markers. It allows users to create portable 3D scanning surfaces that can be wrapped around objects, eliminating the need for traditional stickers.

What is MarkerWeave?

Due to the patent and the ideas I have, future products have already been identified. MarkerWeave is the brand, which currently has one product.

Who made this?

An AM industry veteran (polymers) who was a pioneer of Large Format AM, an early adopter of High Temp AM (think PEEK), who worked for a company that also made scanners (Big 3 FDM). Also experience in engineering product design. Solving problems for a long time.

How does it work?

ScanCloth may be cut, wrapped, draped, or placed behind objects and scanned using the markers. This is a tool that can make setup much faster while also enabling more creative workflows. It also comes with a strip, this strip can be cut into smaller strips for example taping to irregular surfaces where blocks would not work.

Who is it for?

It is for people who own a laser scanner and spend too much time preparing surfaces, or who do not use their scanner enough because of setup time and complexity. Anyone with uneven surfaces.

Can I refund a pre-order?

Of course. Send an email with the appropriate information to sales@markerweave.com.

SCANNING PERFORMANCE

Compatibility and workflow

It is designed for laser scanners that require or benefit from markers.

Is the product in the videos or pictures final?

The photo with watermarkers represents the final product. This will be cut in two pieces, with the small strip having higher marker density.

Can it wrap around irregular geometry?

It’s cloth; just don’t crease the markers. It works well as a substrate on irregular surfaces

How does it affect scanning accuracy?

This is a question we are working on, in our first tests we found an no significant difference (.01mm diff with a .02mm accuracy scanner) but I want to do more testing.

What is MarkerWeave

MarkerWeave is the company name for a company with currently one product.

MATERIAL AND USE

Durability, cutting, and handling

Can I cut it to fit around an object?

It is large enough that you should be able to cut off pieces to do this. It is so big you should probably cut it to make your life easier.

Is it reusable?

It is designed to be reusable, but the markers may degrade over time. We are using a thicker fabric (150 gsm), and the manufacturing facility specializes in higher-end reflective clothing. This should lend to durability

Can I wash it?

The official markerweave answer is NO, although i am doing washing testing and it is working fine (wash #2 as of 5/24/26). Based on similar products, it should ideally last through multiple washes, but we will not formally recommend washing it at this time.

How should it be stored and transported?

Try not to fold it excessively, but ultimately you will as this is made to be super portable and it is very large.

Any Pro Tips?

You really want 6 markers in the scene give or take. So if you have too many, fold the cloth over to cover some markers. Painters tape + Strips can do what marker balls do but with more flexibility.

Any ideas you need to test

Cutting a piece off gluing it to cardboard. Taping it under the engine bay to scan it. We will add more and email me ideas sales@markerweave.com.
